The economy has grown 45% in almost 20 years, leaving manufacturing aside since 2003 and developing business in banking, finances, hospitality, restaurants, education, health and administration. Paul Shevlin is the Craven district council chief executive and revealed his surprise right after hearing the news. “We’re often recognised as one of the best places to live and this is hardly surprising when you look at our beautiful countryside, brilliant schools, amazing communities and our warm and friendly people”, he says.

Craven is the safest place in England and also have the lowest crime rate in the country, in a proportion of 20 crimes for each 1000 inhabitants per year. Police division in Yorkshire says there are a few problems with gangs, robbery and illegal hunting. But officers spend only 20% of the time dealing with criminal behavior, which is less than the average time spent in traffic incidents.

And what about Denmark?

Denmark is one of the countries in Europe with the best life conditions and the happiest population all over the continent. Jessica Joelle Alexander and Iben Dissing Sandahl wrote a book called “The Danish Way of Parenting”. Taking basis in research, observations and interviews, the authors describe how fathers and mothers educate their child and reveal how to apply the effort despite where you live.

According to Alexander and Sandahl, the most important attitude is to acknowledge both the attempt and the conquers without overstatement. Also children must learn how to have empathy, finding ways to understand feelings of another person, avoiding fights and judgements, and these qualities are embraced by the Danish younger ones.
